Volunteer Spotlight: Raquel Mason (Interview)

Meet Raquel Mason, this month's Volunteer Spotlight!🌟  Raquel has donated a wide variety of cards including cards for the customers/staff at the post office, customized cards for people going through tough times, and handmade uplifting cards with jokes. You can often see her cards in many of our Friday Funny posts. We asked her some questions, and we're excited to share her story with you. Thank you for making a difference, Raquel!

1. Can you briefly introduce yourself and share how long you've volunteered with Cardz For Kidz?

   1. Response: My name is Raquel Mason and I enjoy all kinds of crafts, especially making greeting cards (pop up cards are my favorite). I have been volunteering for Cardz for Kidz for about 6.5 years.

2. What inspired you to start volunteering with Cardz For Kidz?

   1. Response: My work, Solitude Lake Management, has a volunteer program and my co-workers wanted to do something as a group. My colleague knew I loved making cards so she suggested Cardz For Kidz. You can say the rest is history, I have been making cards and special requested cards since then. 

3. Could you share a particularly memorable experience you've had while volunteering with us?

   1. Response: There was a virtual event with giveaways & to make cards during this event.  We broke off into groups, so you were creating while having conversations with others. I thought this was so much fun. After the allotted creative time was over you re-joined the entire group to show what you made. Then they did raffles & giveaways.

4. What specific tasks or projects have you been involved in?

   1. Response: I make special requested cards and thank you cards. I try to send in about 100 general cards a month.

5. What are some of your favorite parts of participating with Cardz For Kidz?

   1. Response: The thought that someone will receive the card I made and they smile or laugh. That warms my heart knowing a card has that much potential.

6. How do you feel your volunteering efforts have made a difference, either to the organization or to the recipients of the cards?

   1. Response: Volunteering makes a difference to the organization because I am helping fill a need. 

7. Is there anything else you'd like to share about your volunteering experience or other things you think people should know?

   1. Response: Volunteering for Cardz for Kidz is way for me to spend time with my Mom. We get together once a month and spend our day together making cards together. We fill the table with our supplies, talk, laugh, create, then have some lunch...and most times dessert too.
